4. What is the size of the tVNS® devices?

The actual size of the NEMOS® and VITOS® devices are 107 mm (L) x 61 mm (W) x 18 mm (H) and weigh approximately 115 g. From a visual perspective, we’ve compared it to an iPhone 6.

5. What is the ear electrode and how do I use it?

The ear electrode is a wearable electrode specially designed for delivering gentle electrical pulses to the vagus nerve. The ear electrode is connected to the tVNS® device where the stimulation can be started or stopped. You can find more information here at https://www.neuropix.co/tvns

6. What does the treatment feel like?

Once you wear the ear electrode you can manually control the stimulation intensity and this should be done before each treatment session. The sensation of the electrical pulses should be set to a comfortable level, where the neurostimulation feels like a 'tingling' pulse but should not be painful. This can be adjusted by the user, for example, increasing the stimulation if it is not felt, or decreasing if it is painful.

7. Do I need my doctor to setup the tVNS®?

No - actually, one of the key benefits is that the device is self-applied to support patient autonomy. The devices have pre-set stimulation parameters optimized for treating the specific disease and is designed for ease-of-use.

8. When should I use tVNS®?

The tVNS® applications are used daily. For the optimum results the treatment must be used on a consistent basis, which has been shown in scientific studies. While beneficial effects have been seen in drug-resistant conditions, for example, epilepsy (with NEMOS®) and migraine (with VITOS®), it is recommended to start treatment in such conditions as soon as possible. It is also important to know that tVNS® treatments are not acute treatments and require weeks or even months to see the benefits.

9. Can tVNS® applications be used with my current medications?

Yes - tVNS® therapies can be used adjunct (together) with medications. This may produce the best results depending on your individual response. You may want to discuss with your physician if you want to reduce your intake of medications or stop medications.

10. What is the best location in the ear for stimulation?

One of the best locations from previous medical research has been shown to be the area tVNS® targets, the cymba conchae. In anatomical research this has been confirmed with the region showing the highest number of nerves from the vagus branch, which is the nerve providing the beneficial responses.
